They haven’t been rid of their symptoms in seven months.
Alexandra Svenonius and her 13-year-old daughter fell ill during the Easter holidays. They were not tested because the tests were for care at the time, but they had clear symptoms.
– Every day it feels like the body is fighting the virus. It seems like the body wants to improve, but it takes time, he says.
The sick feeling has come and gone with fever, stomach pain, and headache. The symptoms at this time are a lot of fatigue and shortness of breath.
– Our daughter hasn’t felt well for a single day since she got sick. It doesn’t feel like you’ve been considering all the symptoms that come and go all the time, even if the virus itself is probably gone, says Alexandra Svenonius.
A total of four siblings got sick
The mother of six, Zandra Auglin, and her family have been badly affected by the pandemic, in May four of the children fell ill.
First, older brother Majc Persson, 12, got infected.
– We were a bit surprised when the test came back positive, says Zandra Auglin.
The three younger siblings, 1-year-old Pixie-Li and 2-year-old twins Felix and Jaxon also tested positive, he says. Six months later, all four have ongoing symptoms, such as fatigue and cough, and it continues to affect their daily lives.
– You don’t want to move a lot, especially don’t run because then you’ll be more out of breath, says 12-year-old Majc.
You can still get tired just by walking from your room on the second floor.
– It feels hard, because sometimes I have a little pain in my legs.
Researcher: Typical is fatigue
Jonas F Ludvigsson, a pediatrician at Örebro University Hospital and professor of medical epidemiology at the Karolinska Institutet, has published a case report on long-term covid in children.
– I saw that there was nothing written about long covid in children, there was only data on adults, he says and continues:
– Tiredness that can persist for several months is also typical in children. It is very noticeable and can make you unable to do anything.
Alexandra Svenonius’s daughter is included in the study and also has contact with Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital, which will now investigate about 20 children with long-term suspected covid.
– I have to believe it will be okay. Compared to this spring, it is better. We rejoice in the little things in everyday life, in taking a little snail walk, and in surviving.
The National Board of Health and Welfare has met with the patients association
During Tuesday’s press conference with the Swedish Public Health Agency, long-lasting symptoms were raised due to the crown.
Thomas Lindén, of the National Board of Health and Welfare, said that many people who suffer from corona subsequently experience problems that do not go away.
He further said that the authority recently met with the newly started patients association for covid-19, and that an investigation should be conducted to gain more insight into the powerful symptoms of the corona, so that there is a basis for the treatment and rehabilitation.
