The authority The State Service Center was established on June 1, 2012 to provide administrative services to other authorities. They now offer mouth protection to their employees. Stock Photography.

The state service center, with 117 service offices across the country, offers its employees mouth guards and urges staff to wear mouth guards, among other things, on public transportation, writes the ST union’s Publikt magazine.

Therefore, a different assessment is made than that of the Swedish Public Health Agency (FHM), which has found that the scientific evidence that oral protection prevents the spread of infection is weak.

Managing Director Thomas Pålsson justifies the decision by saying he wants staff to feel safe.

– I reasoned that if you feel safer with a mouth guard, you should have the right to get it. That we use it in our workplaces is not uncommon for health professionals to do so. Although we work behind Plexiglas, I want everyone to feel safe, he says.

The vice president of the ST union within the State Service Center, Anna-Maria Andersson, appreciates the announcement.

– From a union point of view, we emphasize that you must be able to have a safe meeting with clients and that you should always try to keep your distance, which can be difficult at times.
