Marielle DeBruhl cared for coronary heart disease patients at Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge, where she worked as a nurse.

She fell ill and died two weeks later after a rapid progression of the disease, at age 39.

– Marielle was a very affectionate, happy and generous person who believed that what you send, that is what you receive. That if you do good, good will return to you. She lived her life after that, her friend Margareta Hedin told Expressen.

There was protective equipment

District Attorney Jennie Nordin launched a preliminary investigation into workplace crimes by causing the death of another person. According to the report, there was not enough protective equipment in the hospital.

That investigation has now been closed.

– I can say that the investigation of the Swedish Work Environment Authority shows that Karolinska University Hospital carried out partly a risk assessment, but also had the appropriate protective equipment. That staff received information on what equipment would be used. And that they received training and information on how the equipment would be used, he says.

– In general, it can be said, linked to this case, there are no deficiencies in the management of the hospital that are related to this current death.

It is not the cause of death

According to the autopsy carried out, Covid-19 was also not the main cause of death, says Jennie Nordin.

What is the cause of death, the prosecutor does not want to enter for confidentiality reasons.

– It is enough that it cannot show a causal connection, that is, that the main cause of death is not covid-19 to close a preliminary investigation into causing the death of another person, he says.

Expressen has contacted Marielle DeBruhl’s husband, who approved that we publish the name and image.
