Few people in the residential area have seen the man in his 40s who is said to have been locked up by his mother.
But last summer, a neighbor, who lives on the same staircase, found it at the local grocery store.
– I know who you are, you’re my neighbor, the man must have told her.
For almost 30 years, a mother is suspected of keeping her son locked up in an apartment in the Stockholm area. After the suspicions became widely known, the residents of the area reacted with surprise.
Most of the people who live in the same house have not seen the man for a long time.
– They hardly ever came out and haven’t even breathed. It was like a blockade, everything is so strange, says a woman who lives on the same staircase.

I met the man this summer
But a woman, who also lives on the same staircase, says she met the man this year. It was at the local grocery store that he should have gone to see her. You must wear shorts and a bandage on your legs.
– I know who you are. You’re my neighbor, I should have told her.
According to the neighbor, the man said he had seen her from his window.
Most of the Aftonbladet speakers think that two things are strange. One is how the social services, the school or any other authority did not know that the 40 year old.
– But then you ask yourself, when we have things arranged in the house, how could anyone have noticed? Construction workers have been here, says a woman.
I never spoke of the son
The other neighbor says she spoke with her mother the times they met in the area.
– We talk mainly about the weather and the wind, as always. Sometimes he would ask her how she was with the boy, then she would just say that he was fine, that she hardly ever talked about him.
She has reacted to the fact that the mother and son never seemed to open their windows. In one of them, the same Advent star has hung and placed the same candlestick for 30 years, he says.
– But what to do? How do you know what happens behind a closed door? It’s all so disgusting that you can’t believe it’s true, he says.

“I’ve always been alone”
Several neighbors tell Aftonbladet that they reacted to the mother’s clothes.
A young man who lived in the same residential building worked a few years ago in one of the grocery stores in the area where the mother was a customer.
– She has always been alone when I have seen her, says the man.
The store staff perceived the woman as special.
– She seemed a bit confused. But I thought she was a confused older woman, not that someone was going to keep someone locked up for 28 years. It feels uncomfortable.
Several of the neighbors question that no one has discovered the trapped son before.
– That’s what I wonder the most now. Renovation work has been done inside the apartment. Has no one noticed anything? asks the young man.
– That the municipality has not gone there and checked or noticed anything. Everything is so strange, says another neighbor.
The mother has been arrested and is suspected, according to the prosecutor, of probable cause of serious bodily injury and illness and of illegal deprivation of liberty.
