A woman in her 70s is suspected of keeping her son imprisoned in an apartment in Haninge Township, where police are now investigating the crime scene.
The man in his 40s suspected of being locked up in an apartment in Stockholm has undergone surgery for his injuries and will now be questioned.
– His injuries are not considered life-threatening, says Ola Österling in the police.
The man’s mother, a woman in her 70s, has been arrested.
On Sunday night, a man in his 40s was found in an apartment in the Haninge municipality, south of Stockholm. It is suspected that he was imprisoned for 28 years by his mother, which Expressen was the first to tell him.
– It must have been a close relative who found him, more than that, I do not want to comment on the investigation at this time, says Emma Olsson, prosecutor of the Södertörn prosecutor’s room, to TT.
Alerted doctors
The woman in her 70s has been arrested on suspicion of illegal deprivation of liberty and aggravated by causing bodily harm and aggravated by causing illness. She denies any wrongdoing.
According to information from Expressen, a female relative of the man must have entered the house where she found him almost without speaking. So he must have been difficult to carry, toothless and had large permanent wounds all over his body.
The son was taken to Karolinska University Hospital and the prosecutor Emma Olsson confirms to TT that the son had to undergo surgery due to his injuries.
– It’s a doctor who alerted the police, says Emma Olsson.
However, the man’s injuries are not considered life threatening, says Ola Österling, a press spokesman for the police in the Stockholm region.
To be mapped
During the day, the police will visit the hospital to interview the son.
– In the near future, we will map the life circumstances of this man and his situation, says Chamber Prosecutor Emma Olsson.
Among other things, witness interviews will be conducted and the apartment has been cordoned off for a crime scene investigation.
– Later this afternoon or tomorrow, I’ll take a position on the arrest issue, says Emma Olsson.
Detention decisions must be made no later than Thursday at 12 noon.
During the investigation, Emma Olsson hopes to get an answer on when the man was last in contact with a doctor.
The municipality has been contacted
If the information about the incarcerated son is correct, he has not had any contact with authorities since high school.
Håkan Filipsson, Haninge Municipality Press Officer, confirms to TT that the police have contacted the municipality regarding a preliminary investigation into the illegal deprivation of liberty.
– We cooperate with the police based on that, but I cannot go further because there is suspicion of a serious crime.
TT: If a child does not show up to school for several years, how can he not be followed by the municipality when there is compulsory schooling?
– Since a preliminary investigation is underway, I do not want to speculate on the particular case. In general, when it comes to compulsory schooling, we monitor.
TT: What does that mean?
– Let us find out what happened – let us get in touch with relatives and guardians. In some cases, the incident is reported to the police, says Håkan Filipsson, emphasizing:
– Of course, we and all municipalities take compulsory schooling seriously.
