– I’ve decided to keep running. I have received very strong support from many who have heard of him, says Hirvonen.

Eight environmentalists have run for the next Green Party spokesperson after Isabella Lövin. Last week, the party’s nominating committee recommended party secretary Märta Stenevi as the new spokesperson.

At the same time, the Nominating Committee urged others to consider over the past weekend whether they want to remain candidates.

– This weekend I also found out that when the Västernorrland district ranked the candidates, they placed me number one. I feel great confidence from outside the country, says Hirvonen.

– I believe that the experience and knowledge I have in current social issues, together with the fact that I am a good communicator and have shown that I can set the agenda in public debate, ultimately, makes me the candidate who has the better conditions to ensure we rise in the next electoral campaign.

Another former candidate who has announced her intention to run for the January 31 spokesperson election is Umeå municipal politician Elin Söderberg.

Deputy Rebecka Le Moine also remains in her candidacy.

– In our party, the most important thing is that the party chooses. It is in congress where we can see who the party wants as its spokesperson. I am still available.

She emphasizes that she wants to continue treating the problems of nature, the environment and biodiversity at the highest possible level. She believes that the support for her is strongest in Östergötland, where she comes from.

Former minister Karolina Skog, on the other hand, has announced that she will resign in favor of Märta Stenevi.

Others expected to report are Riksdag members Janine Alm Ericson and Pernilla Stålhammar, and Minister for Gender Equality Åsa Lindhagen.
