The Ili Lewotolok outbreak has forced people to evacuate their homes.
Thousands of residents have been forced to flee the Indonesian volcano Ili Lewotolok, which woke up on Sunday and spewed ash and smoke through the sky.
The smoke indicator, which is estimated to be four kilometers high, has forced the closure of the local airport. This is stated by the country’s crisis authority.
Ili Lewotolok, whose last major eruption was in 2017, is located in the isolated Nusa Tenggara Timur province in southern Indonesia. 4,000 residents of the area have been evacuated by the authorities, there is currently no information available on the injuries or deaths.
Authorities urge residents in the immediate area to wear mouth guards to protect themselves from the ash cloud and stay informed in the event of lava flows. Additionally, residents are advised not to stay within a four kilometer radius of the volcano’s crater.
There are almost 130 active volcanoes in Indonesia, located in Eldringen, an area of high seismic activity.
