The Kaavan elephant, known as the loneliest elephant in the world, landed in Cambodia on Monday after its journey from Pakistan.
He received a warm welcome from, among others, world star Cher.
The music star will follow Kaavan to his new home, an elephant sanctuary in Oddar Meanchey province where new friends and potential partners await the 36-year-old male elephant who has lived alone for more than eight years.
An unexpected friendship
It has been a long time since the elephant first hits the star.
The unexpected friendship between Cher and Kaavan stems from the multi-year campaign that drew attention to the elephant’s lonely existence in a zoo in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, and resulted in its transfer to Cambodia.
The American singer, among other things, has written songs about the loneliness of the elephant and has raised money to move it. When a Pakistani court ruled this spring that Kaavan should be moved to the reservation in Cambodia, Cher wrote on Twitter that it was one of the best moments of her life.
I ate bananas and slept
Kaavan’s demanding transport was organized by the animal rights organization Four Paws, which claims that Kaavan’s journey was uneventful and uneventful and that the heavy passenger spent the journey eating bananas and sleeping.
When Kaavan’s 10-ton box arrived at Siem Reap airport in Cambodia, it was greeted by an enthusiastic crowd, including Cher, who cheerfully greeted the box.
– Cambodia is pleased to welcome Kaavan. It will no longer be the world’s loneliest elephant, says Cambodia’s Deputy Environment Minister Neth Pheaktra, who was also present at the elephant’s arrival.
Kaavan was born in 1985 in Sri Lanka and was a gift to Pakistan. Between 1990 and 2012, he lived with the female elephant Saheli at the zoo, but since she died, he has been the only Asian elephant in Pakistan.
