More than 20,000 cases of the coronavirus have been reported in the Australian state of Victoria since the start of the pandemic.
But now the country’s health authority estimates that the virus has been eradicated in the state.
– The world looks to Australia and wishes it were us, says Greg Hunt, the country’s Minister of Health.
The state of Victoria is home to around 6.7 million people and the next largest city in the country, Melbourne, is located here. In total, since the start of the pandemic, more than 20,000 people have been infected with corona and more than 800 people have died from the virus in the state.
But now Victoria reports that they have not had a single new case of the coronavirus in more than 30 days.

The last active corona drop was a patient discharged from the hospital on Monday and, since Friday, no new cases of covid-19 have been reported in four weeks, The Guardian reports.
The country’s equivalent of the Swedish Public Health Agency says that if no new cases are reported within 28 days, the virus can be counted as extinct in the population. A boundary that the state has now crossed by a two-day margin.
Then they got rid of the infection
But how did the infection state get rid?
Melbourne has been in a tough lockdown for over a hundred days. Among other things, there has been a total curfew during the night and during the day, residents have only been allowed 1.5 kilometers from their home.
But now that they are starting to reopen, they hope to keep the infection low through a series of new rules compiled by The Guardian.
• A maximum of 15 visitors per day can visit residents’ homes. Residents are asked to keep minutes of people who visit their home.
• Public events can have a maximum of 50 visitors.
• Those who live in nursing homes can have a visitor for a maximum of two hours per day.
• Restaurants, theaters, concert halls, museums, cinemas and casinos of less than 200 square meters can have 50 guests. Larger venues can have 150 guests, but in both cases there must be two square meters per visitor.
• Weddings and funerals can have a maximum of 150 guests. But the same rules apply here as in restaurants too. Two square meters must be available per visitor.
• Schoolchildren over 12 years old have had to wear mouth guards.
• The gym and sports halls will be open but with some restrictions.

No one has been allowed to visit the state of Victoria without special permission. It is one of the restrictions and rules that the state has had.
Preparing for the opening
The state is now preparing to reopen the borders with the other states in the country. But it will be some time before the country opens its international borders.
– We see that the outside world has a large number of new cases and therefore we, as a world, will have to handle covid-19 at least until 2021 and possibly longer. It will have consequences for Australia, says the country’s Health Minister Greg Hunt at a press conference and continues:
– But Australia has handled it incredibly well. We have still had heartache and we have experienced tragedy. But the world looks to Australia and wishes it were us.
