RUKA / STOCKHOLM. Therese Johaug was superior again.
But behind that, it became a new podium for Ebba Andersson after several Swedes collided with each other.
– It is sad that we do not receive the maximum Swedish dividend today, says Andersson.
Therese Johaug came out with a 16-second lead at the start of the hunt. Behind that, Frida Karlsson, Maja Dahlqvist and Linn Svahn did their best to type in Norwegian.
But no one could fault Johaug this day either. Already after 3.6 kilometers, the giant had increased the distance to 22 seconds and it turned into a fight for second and third place.
Ebba Andersson joined the Swedish trio, who together with Russians Tatiana Sorina and Natailja Neprajeva chased after Johaug, after less than half the race and it was a dramatic finish after something happened in the final round.
“So much fun to be successful”
Svahn and Dahlqvist appear to have been dragged into a clash, but Karlsson and Andersson managed and compensated Sorina for the podium. The Russian was the strongest and ranked second before Andersson.
– It’s great to have achieved it considering that it was one of today’s goals. Today I felt very alert and managed to stay calm. It was a good day for me, says Andersson and continues:
– It was sad that we did not receive the maximum Swedish dividend today. There will be some kind of massive crash on the slope towards the stadium area. I’m number two on the track, one of the Swedes pushes me and I myself fall because I have so much speed and I have to jump to avoid riding in Russian. Then I hear someone yell at me and I have time to see that people go in all directions and edges. After that it was only to continue the focus on the future because it was a war for the podium and I wanted to get there today.
“The worst possible”
Dahlqvist and Svahn finished seventh and eighth after the crash.
– They fell in front of me and I was trapped in them, there was nothing to do. Ebba, Linn and I were in second, third and fourth places downhill. We catch up from behind and nobody wants to go first. You know it and then I think you should stay on track and not keep dating and that’s what happens, says Dahlqvist.
Who goes outside?
– It was Linn or Ebba, I don’t know. Linn was the first to go down and we were left behind. It is the worst imaginable. This is the first time I have been on the podium for the first time, but I ended up directly in the gutter.
