It was a record warm start to the weekend in Sydney when the temperature rose to 40.5 degrees in mid-Sunday, after a Saturday at the same levels.
This is the first time the city’s 160-year-old gauging station has recorded two such hot days in a row in November, writes the Sydney Morning Herald.
Another record was the night temperature, which did not drop more than 25.3 degrees.
Sunday morning I woke up Sydney residents in 30 degree heat, claims the newspaper.
At the same time, it was reported that several fires broke out, one of which is a ground fire west of the city. For a time, it threatened buildings in the area, but was fought off by firefighters and water bombardments from planes, and the alert level for the fire was lowered during the day.
Now the western parts are feared of the state of New South Wales will be more exposed to fires this coming summer.
After several years of drought, this year it has rained, something that accelerated the vegetation, and now there is a great risk of extensive grass fires, especially as the area escaped from the big fires of last year.
In the coming days, however, slightly cooler weather has been promised.
