He actually started calling the police in western Sweden at 6.40pm on Saturday, which NyheterSTO Be the first to report.
– We have received many calls. He’s called from Tjörn, Stenungsund and Vänersborg, among others, says Ann-Christin Löfstrand, an officer on duty in the West Police Region.
Of course, many wondered: what was it that really hit? And where did the sudden bright light come from? Police don’t have a completely clear picture at this point, but there is no question that a crime is suspected here.
– Recently it was something similar, and then it was seen in various places in the country. So maybe it was something similar.
“The fireball has fallen west of Lysekil”
The newspaper Today news reports that it is precisely a bright meteor, a so-called fireball, which has entered the atmosphere. The phenomenon must have been seen from Trondheim in the north to parts of Denmark in the south.
The Norwegian meteor network writes on its website that it has received a number of event observations, and several of the network’s meteor cameras have recorded light phenomena:
“We will investigate further, but it is probably a temporary meteor.”
Late on Saturday night, the Norwegian Meteor Network updated its event report:
“Preliminary calculations suggest that the fireball approached the Swedish west coast and fell into the sea, west of Lysekil.”
Footnote: An earlier version of this article said that the network had written that the fireball had fallen west of Gothenburg, that information has now been corrected.
