The Norrbotten region has learned of a false letter sent to recipients in Luleå.

The letter, which claims to be from FHM, states that the person has been infected with covid-19 and should stay home.

– Do not follow the instructions in the letter, but make a police report, warns the head of security Rickard Stewén.

On Friday, the Norrbotten region issued a warning to its residents. The warning applies to a forged letter that a person has received in Luleå. The letter indicates that the recipient has been exposed to covid-19 infection and that “he should stay home and not walk out the door” while he waits for the Public Health Agency to contact “for more information.”

But that letter has never been sent from the Public Health Agency.

– We have been in contact with the Public Health Agency and neither they nor we track infections in that way. When you read more carefully, you understand from the language and wording that it is made up, says Rickard Stewén, head of security for the Norrbotten region.

“It may have been sent to more”

It has not been discovered who is in fact behind the letter and who the motives are. But Rickard Stewén has his suspicions.

– It could be one thing for you to contact this family after two days and try to steal information about bank identification or other confidential information.

So far, the region only knows of one household that has received the letter.

– But, of course, it may have been sent to more of them, says Stewén.

“Boring”

The region says they take the letter “extremely seriously” and urges everyone who receives a similar email to make a police report.

– It is very sad that there are those who are trying to take advantage of the difficult situation in which we find ourselves right now. To those of you who have received a letter, I want to say that you do not have to follow the instructions in the letter, but you must make a police report, says Rickard Stewén.
