It was a second Swedish battle for third place at Kontiolax.

Johanna Skottheim took the first podium of her career before Elvira Öberg and Linn Persson.

“I never thought I would be on the podium in the first race,” says Skottheim.

The Swedish sprint ladies took a triple yesterday and today Frida Karlsson and Ebba Andersson followed with two new places on the podium. At the premiere of the biathlon, it was also a huge Swedish success.

Hanna Öberg fired two booms in the distance race and was unable to compete for the podium. Instead, it was three other Swedes who made up for third place. Linn Persson, Elvira Öberg and Johanna Skottheim had a chance after the last shot.

Four Swedes in the top ten

Öberg finished third ahead of Persson despite a boom, but was later beaten by Skottheim who, like Persson, shot straight. Skottheim, who had never been on the podium in the World Cup before, took third place ten seconds ahead of Öberg.

– I was four years old last year and it is clear that you also want to get on the podium, but I never thought that I would be there in the first race. It’s a great start to the season.

How well did you know that you fought your teammates on the podium?

– No good control. He didn’t even know he was in a good position until the third shooter. But for once, I prepared the race well and it’s so much fun it’s worth it.

“I’ve never been here without the team”

With Hanna Öberg in seventh place and Mona Brorsson in eleventh, she was Swedish in third, fourth, fifth, seventh and eleventh places.

– This just shows how strong the women’s team is. Hanna is seventh and fourth Swedish, this must have been the best we have done as a team. He’s sick, says Skottheim, continuing:

– For me, it has done a lot to be part of the A-team training group. There are so many strong girls and I wouldn’t have come here without the team.

Dorothea Wierer won the competition before Denise Herrmann.
