More than 400,000 people with covid-19 have died in Europe.
In the last week, the virus has claimed the most lives since the start of the pandemic.
Now the virus countries are picking up speed.
With 400,649 dead in the crown, Europe is now the second most affected region in the world, after Latin America and the Caribbean.
Of the hundreds of thousands of deaths, 36,147 occurred in the last week alone, the worst seven days in Europe in total since the pandemic began, the AFP news agency claims.
United Kingdom accounts for the majority of deaths, with 57,551 deaths and nearly 1.6 million infected.
From then on Italy with 53,677 deaths and 1.5 million infected, and France with 51,914 dead and 2.2 million infected.
Then comes Spain with 44,668 deaths and 1.6 million infected, followed by Russia with 39,068 dead and 2.2 million infected.
So far a total of 17.6 million people have been confirmed to be infected in Europe.
