RUKA. Heidi Weng was way behind in sprint qualifiers.
Now the Norwegian cancels the minitour in Ruka.
– You need peace and quiet, says Norwegian team doctor Öystein Andersen.
Norwegian skier Heidi Weng has had a difficult start to the season.
He was just over 25 seconds behind in qualifying yesterday and never advanced to the final series.
– It really was just the head that didn’t work, he told NRK yesterday.
There are two races left in the minitour in Finland, but on Saturday morning the Norwegian national team leadership announces that Heidi Weng is broken.
– Heidi Weng does not like skiing, says national team doctor Öystein Andersen in a press release.
– He needs peace and quiet and ends the minitour in Ruka, but he won’t be back home until tomorrow with the rest of the squad on the chartered flight, he says.
Johaug’s support for the friend of the national team
As is well known, the prosecution was difficult for the Norwegian team, which was quarantined after a positive coronation test on the management staff, but was released from it when the control test showed that Eirik Myhr Nossum was healthy.
When asked if it would affect Heidi Weng, she answered this after sprint qualifying:
-I don’t know, now it just sits on my head and then I can’t go fast.
Therese Johaug said at the digital press conference after the sprint that they are there for Weng.
– The most important thing is that it is okay and then skiing means very little. She can talk to the support staff and doctor about getting teammates there, Therese Johaug said yesterday.
Anna Dyvik from the Swedish national team, who was crying after yesterday’s sprint and wanted to interrupt the tour due to back problems, will start the classic race on Saturday.
The race starts at 9.40 Swedish time.
