GT has seen photographs showing how the corridors of Nordstan are filled with visitors walking together on Black Friday this year. Both GP and Aftonbladet have previously drawn attention to congestion.
Even though the stricter crown council, which claims to avoid indoor settings like malls and stores, was recently rolled out in Västra Götaland and infection control doctors attracted the public, it still got crowded.
According to Ulrika Carlsson, CEO of Nordstan, there were more people in the mall on Friday compared to what it usually seemed during the fall. She describes a peak in the afternoon. At the same time, however, Carlsson says the mall has taken action with the corona pandemic in mind.
Nordstan removed the ads
– What has been done is that we do not have any Black Friday ad from the mall side. The stores have distributed offers throughout the week and have been working since Monday just not to create publicity, Ulrika Carlsson tells GP.
Aftonbladet has spoken with a nurse who witnessed the congestion when she passed the mall.
– It was evenly crowded everywhere, there were so many people and there was no possibility that they could maintain a proper crown distance.
In relation to the strict advice that is being extended in Västra Götaland, infection control doctor Thomas Wahlberg said:
– Every day hundreds of people are infected and some of them become seriously ill. Now it is going in the wrong direction and we should all feel responsible for it. At the same time, we can all make a difference by following the advice. It applies to me, it applies to you, and it applies to everyone else around us.
