Missing officer Deniz Arda, 31, has not yet been found.
Now her brother, Imren Arda, talks about the disappearance and the great search effort.
– It feels unreal and surreal in a very negative way, says Deniz’s brother Imren Arda.
Deniz Arda, 31, was reported missing last Wednesday when he failed to show up for a military exercise in northern Sweden and a large search operation was launched shortly afterwards, mainly in the forest areas south of Stockholm.
The last clue that has been secured after him was that he saw a YouTube clip on Friday, November 13 at 11.17. But since then, Deniz has shown no sign of life.
Deniz Arda is a specialist officer and flag lieutenant to the point. He holds a senior position in the military and was previously described by his close military friend Henrik Ehrenfeldt as a highly regarded colleague.
That he was so appreciated has led up to 400 soldiers from across the country, completely voluntarily, choosing to participate in the search for him.
Brother Deniz on the effort
Deniz’s older brother Imren Arda says it is heartwarming that so many have been involved in his brother’s disappearance.
– If you take 1,000 randomly selected people in society, perhaps only a few would have received such a great search effort. On a personal level, I am very happy and grateful for all the help we can receive, he says.

Imren himself has been to his brother’s apartment after the disappearance and believes Deniz left his house to go for a run.
– Deniz is very neat and meticulous. Everything is in its place. She is often dressed in muted colors, but she had a pair of running shoes that are very light blue and red so they stand out. When I was in his apartment, I saw that, among other things, the shoes were missing, he says.
The mobile phone stayed in the apartment.
Deniz’s apartment also had Deniz’s private cell phone, work phone, and wallet. This reinforces Imren’s suspicion that his brother would go for a run.
– The last time I met him he had a new heart rate monitor for which he expressed great joy. It had a feature so that you could play music on your Bluetooth headphones and then didn’t have to fiddle with your phone, says Imren Arda.
But despite the massive effort, Deniz’s footprints have been few. One of the finds was made earlier this week in Botkyrka when reflective tape was found, which is the same type used by the Armed Forces.

“Unreal”
Imren says that the first shock after the disappearance has subsided, but that the situation is very difficult.
– It feels unreal and surreal in a very negative way, he says.
Imren Arda also urges the public to come up with advice or theories that applicants have not thought of through the Facebook group “Deniz Arda is missing – help us find him.”

The clothes and bag Deniz Arda is wearing in the photo are not believed to have been used when she disappeared.

The police investigate the crime
During the week, the Police launched a preliminary investigation into the kidnapping and are now treating the case as an investigation.
– We have access to another toolbox when we investigate this as a kidnapping. Among other things, we can seize objects and control other people in a different way, says Åsa Wallentin, press spokesperson for the Stockholm Police.
She says what is required to initiate a preliminary investigation is that the police have “reason to suspect a crime.”
– It’s a pretty low level. But the leader of the preliminary investigation, along with several very experienced investigators, has conducted the assessment to initiate a preliminary investigation. I can’t go into more detail than that, says Åsa Wallentin.
