The EU list of environmentally sustainable investments should attract private capital to green investments, but that list does not include hydropower.
The government is now being criticized for not defending Swedish interests.
– That hydroelectric energy is not on that list, as a green and sustainable energy source, is of course completely unacceptable, says Elisabeth Svantesson (M), economic-political spokesperson.
A negative stamp
The consequence of hydropower not being on the list makes it increasingly difficult for Swedish energy companies to attract venture capital. And instead, it receives a negative stamp from green investors.
– If we end up not included in the green taxonomy, then investments in, for example, hydroelectric energy will not be classified as a green investment and then there is a risk that the financing of this type of projects will be difficult, says the deputy. Finance Minister Per Bolund (MP), to SR Ekot.
Svantesson: “Higher energy prices”
Elisabeth Svantesson (M) is also on Bolund’s trail:
– It will be more difficult to get money, that is, financing and investments. This will lead to higher costs and higher energy prices, he says.
Therefore, Svantesson believes that the government has failed to protect Swedish interests.
– The government has had a whole year in this work. And you must be active in driving and safeguarding Swedish interests. Other countries have been very active. But that hydroelectric power is not on that list, as a green and sustainable energy source, is of course completely unacceptable, he says and continues:
– Now I hope you try to enter the list. I hope it is not too late, but that you can influence.
