Prosecutor Lindha Strömberg is demanding long sentences for a man and his two sons accused of stabbing a man on a bus in Kiruna this summer. A motive of honor is behind the murder, according to the prosecutor.
– It will have an impact in an aggravating direction, Nyheter Norrbotten tells SVT.
During the last day of district court hearings on Friday, Lindha Strömberg demanded that the 47-year-old father be sentenced to life in prison for murder.
Even for her two sons, aged 17 and 15, Strömberg demanded severe punishment.
– Regarding the 17-year-old boy, we demand ten years in prison, where we want to say that the value of the sentence is too high for closed childcare, but he should go to prison, Nyheter Norrbotten tells SVT.
– With regard to the 15-year-old boy, we demand four years of closed juvenile care.
Severe violence
The penalty is maximum for his age.
According to the indictment, the father and his two sons killed the 20-year-old man by chasing him on a bus in central Kiruna and hitting, kicking and stabbing him with a knife.
– It was a violent assault, the coroner has found 99 stab wounds, Lindha Strömberg told TT in connection with the accusation.
All the defendants have denied wrongdoing during the main trial. The 15-year-old admits he used violence, but claims he did it in self-defense.
That there should have been a motive related to honor is completely rejected.
Honor motive
Lindha Stromberg believes, however, that this is the case.
The victim and the father’s wife worked in the same workplace, and the motive for the crime was precisely to preserve the honor of the family, he told TT in relation to the prosecution.
– It is based on the fact that the father realized that his wife had a relationship with the plaintiffs. It’s been going on for quite some time that you’ve been out of work. Then he took his kids on this. I mean, state a motive of honor when you bring relatives, Strömberg said.
