The explosive that exploded at a workplace in an industrial zone in Östersund on Wednesday belonged to the municipality, reports P4 Jämtland. A man in his 30s died and a man in his 60s is being treated in hospital with serious injuries. Both men were municipal employees.

The information that the explosive belonged to the municipality comes from the Prosecutor’s Office in the case. The Östersund Municipality cannot explain why there were explosives at the workplace.

– It’s not something I want to go into and speculate on. But I can say that the municipality has not had any activity in the last ten years that has carried out explosions, says Örjan Jervidal, head of technical administration.

According to the rescue service, the municipality has not been allowed to handle explosive goods for the last ten years.

The police have launched a preliminary investigation with the title causing the death of another person and causing bodily injury.
