RUKA / STOCKHOLM. Winner of the Sprint Cup last year, direct winner this year.
Linn Svahn dominated the premiere and won against Maja Dahlqvist and Jonna Sundling.
– There has been a bit of talk in the media and that Swedes are so cocky, but triple Swedes, so you’re quite strong, says Svahn.
Seven of the eight Swedes advanced from the sprint playoffs during the world cup premiere in Ruka, Finland. Of them, Linn Svahn, Jonna Sundling, Maja Dahlqvist and Emma Ribom made it to the final. There they faced Ane Appelkvist Stenseth and Lotta Udnes Weng.
But the Norwegians had no chance against the Swedes.
Svahn, who impressed the most until the end, did a bump on the last hill and took a clear victory.
– It was a lot of fun driving today. I have felt that I want to do everything so heavenly well and make the right decision. It felt good to appreciate it.
“It became a talk in the media”
Svahn even threw away his glasses before the final.
– I felt that today I should show that my eyes are in fighting mode, so I threw away my glasses. What mattered today was only the first to cross the finish line.
What did you think when you saw who was coming after you?
– I just thought: “yes, yes, yes, yes”. We are so heavenly strong. There has been a bit of talk in the media and that the Swedes are so cocky and think they are heavenly, but the Swedish triple and four ladies in the final, so you’re pretty strong. That is why I say that we are the best women’s team in the world. It feels good to show it now because I think there will be many more to come during the season and over the weekend.
Behind Svahn, Maja Dahlqvist, who had a difficult season last year, took second place.
– It feels very, very good, like I already have a better season than last year. It’s really fun to be a part of podium riding again, he says and continues:
– It is a very good level of our training and today we received confirmation of that. Obviously we are the best in the world.
Jonna Sundling completed the Swedish triple with her third place finish.
