Foreign Minister Ann Linde (S) claims that Sweden certainly has the right to intervene in the case of the death penalty against Ahmadreza Djalali, born in Sweden and imprisoned in Iran.

Foreign Minister Ann Linde rejects Iran’s claim that Sweden has no right to intervene in the case of the Iranian Swede Ahmadreza Djalali, who is threatened with the death penalty.

– We have every right to go to bed in this case, Linde tells TT.

The other day came the news that the Swedish-Iranian doctor Ahmadreza Djalali would be transferred to the Karaj prison, on the outskirts of Tehran, pending the execution of the death penalty, to which he has been sentenced after alleged espionage .

When Ann Linde raised the issue with the Iranian Foreign Minister, an official statement came from the Iranian Foreign Ministry warning Sweden to intervene in Iran’s internal affairs.

Void

– We continue to believe that Djalali is a Swedish citizen and therefore we have every right to intervene in this case. We have requested consular access, we have not received it, we have demanded that the death penalty not be carried out and we have raised this issue in all contexts and so have other countries and the EU, says Ann Linde.

– We have tried tirelessly to find a solution. That is why I also mentioned it the other day when we learned of the deterioration of Djalali’s situation. I have also spoken with his wife and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been in constant contact with her in recent years.

Christian Democrats’ foreign policy spokesman Lars Adaktusson criticizes the government’s handling of the case.

– There are big questions about how the government has acted and how it acts now. One of the questions is why Sweden and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs do not receive help from the countries that have offered to help through their contacts and channels. The United States has. Sweden has refused, Adaktusson tells TT.

Has not been implemented

But Ann Linde rejects the claim.

– We have many contacts with different countries and, of course, I do not go into those details. I don’t think Lars Adaktusson thinks we are so stupid that we do not accept the help we receive in any way. But the help that has been offered is obviously not something I would go into, he says.

Lars Adaktusson also criticizes the fact that the Foreign Ministry only demands that the death penalty not be carried out and not that he be released.

– I have not received a reply. This means that it is suggested that you have done something. As long as you haven’t had a trial and your case is tried, it should be assumed that you are innocent, says Adaktusson.

Ann Linde does not answer the question why her release is not required.

– The important thing now is that the death penalty is not carried out, he says.
