Former Iraqi minister denied Swedish population registration

In September, the Swedish Revenue Agency denied Najah al-Shammaris, who also goes by the name Al-adeli, notice to move to Sweden. The decision was appealed and rejected on Thursday also by the Administrative Court, which writes that he still has a house in Baghdad and that the documents he presented are easy to forge. The Swedish Tax Agency wrote in its refusal that it can be assumed that he will not spend enough time in the country to be granted the population registration.

In November last year, it was revealed that the former minister had lived with dual citizenship in Sweden for several years. He received Swedish citizenship in 2015 and, together with his wife, must have received child and housing allowance here.

Najah al-Shammari was fired from his post when the Iraqi government accused of corruption resigned late last year. He has been investigated for crimes against humanity, but the Public Ministry closed the investigation last summer.
