A mutated coronavirus that was discovered on mink farms in Denmark created a sense of panic among ruling politicians for fear that the country would become the “new Wuhan.”

On November 4, the Danish government, led by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S), issued an order for all minks in the country to be killed.

As a result, several thousand minks died immediately. But it turned out that the order was unconstitutional. The scandal has provoked strong reactions in Denmark and has led, among other things, to the resignation of Mogens Jensen as Minister of Food.

“It was bad”

On Thursday, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen visited mink farms that have been forced to kill all minks.

She says the government did not give an illegal order, but that the mink farmers certainly perceived it as if the minks were going to be killed, according to TV2. For that he apologizes.

– I think there are reasons to apologize for what happened. I have no problem apologizing, because it was done wrong, he says when he meets the press corps outside one of the mink farms.

Wipe her tears

When he talks about it, his voice starts to shake and he wipes his eyes in front of the television cameras.

– It was emotional. Due to the mistakes that have been made and the concerns that have arisen, it has also been an extremely difficult time for the families and for mink farmers, who in addition to managing the slaughter of their animals would also experience such a complicated process, says the Prime Minister.
