Sweden will peak in infection in December. Then it turns off.

This according to the new scenario presented by the Swedish Public Health Agency.

– We are hopeful that we can influence the pandemic in this way, says CEO Johan Carlson.

The news at today’s press conference came like a light in the darkness of November. The culmination of Sweden’s second wave may be within two weeks, according to a new scenario developed by the Swedish Public Health Agency.

The FHM scenario runs from November to March next year. The authority has come to this by analyzing data on the spread of the infection from August to early November.

– In this, we hoped to get effects from the city councils that have been introduced, but we have not taken into account the prohibition of alcohol or the lowered limits for public meetings, says Johan Carlson.

The top reaches Lucia

Therefore, Sweden is expected to reach its general peak of infection spread in mid-December, just in time for Lucia.

– We are hopeful that we can influence the pandemic in this way, but I want to emphasize that we are not experts in calculating what it will be like. This is based on the fact that we have good compliance from city councils and good social distancing, Johan Carlson said, and he cautioned against taking the news as income to start celebrating.

And it is still too early to say what the celebration of the Christmas and New Year holidays will be like. But the Swedes can’t wait for the green light for this year’s big celebrations.

– It will be a very restrictive attitude around Christmas and New Years, says Johan Carlson.

When will the lightning come?

– Even if it comes in December, it doesn’t mean this is over. A joint effort is required to comply with the advice and recommendations that have been around for a long time. Although we can start with vaccination, the pandemic will not disappear in society, we have a long way to go, says the CEO.

During the press conference, Prime Minister Stefan Löfven warned people about the upcoming Black Friday sale.

– Tomorrow is Black Friday, I want to emphasize that this year there should be no congestion in shops and stores. Refrain from the big shopping spree.

– What we as a country do wrong now, we have to suffer later, what we do well, we recover later.
