A new spokesperson, who will succeed Isabella Lövin, will be elected in an additional congress on January 31, 2021. Today, the party’s nominating committee presents its proposal.
Two of the eight candidates are favorites with an advance tip, they are the party secretary Märta Stenevi and the minister of Gender Equality Åsa Lindhagen.
The others who want to be A new spokesperson is Riksdag members Janine Alm Ericson, Annika Hirvonen, Rebecka Le Moine, Karolina Skog, Pernilla Stålhammar and Umeå municipal politician Elin Söderberg.
Regardless of who the nominating committee picks as the favorite, several of the candidates are likely to run in the January election. Delegates to MP congresses are not bound by their districts in the same way as in other parties, which makes the outcome of the election more difficult to predict.
For example, one of the spokesperson candidates, Märta Stenevi, was elected party secretary when she challenged the candidate from the nominating committee in congress last year. And in the same congress, the relatively unknown municipal politician Magnus P Wåhlin received a third of the votes when he challenged Per Bolund for the position of spokesperson.
