Information on Christmas trips next week

Starting December 14, the same rules will apply to limit the spread of the infection across the country. At the Swedish Public Health Agency, work is feverishly under way to replace the general local guidelines that now apply, and to produce recommendations for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

There are many contacts with infection control physicians, regions, county boards, and other stakeholders. The objective is to be able to present the new regulations on Thursday of next week, according to information to TT.

Legally, it is not possible to ban travel, but nowadays several regions advise against unnecessary travel. What FHM is working on now from the outside is a softer form of regulation and advice.

Since people are supposed to want to travel this Christmas, it is more sustainable to ensure that travel is done in the most planned and safe way possible, based on the reasoning.

Planned and safe

For example, driving a car for those who have the opportunity to do so, thinking about how to get home if you get sick, so that healthcare is not burdened, not socializing with new social contacts and generally making everyone take responsibility.

Nothing has been decided yet. The infection situation must be weighed at all times, the stakeholders involved must be consulted and the government can also have opinions.

FHM has had discussions especially with ski counties about Christmas trips. In Dalarna, infection control assistant physician Helena Ernlund says they are concerned about the spread of the infection.

– But we work on the basis that there will be people, so we prepare in every way, for example with a greater sampling. And we have talks with the companies at the ski resorts so they can isolate sick staff, for example, he says.

The risk exists

Today, Dalarna has an unnecessary travel deterrent within the region. And from a strict infection control standpoint, it would be helpful if travel restrictions were maintained, the infection control doctor believes.

– It’s like now or worse, traveling between regions is not good, says Helena Ernlund.

In another winter tourism county, Jämtland, regional board chair Eva Hellstrand hopes that ski tourists will be able to come.

– If you are traveling with your own car, with your own family to your own cabin or apartment, you are still in a limited group. There are still the kinds of opportunities we would like to have, says Eva Hellstrand.

TT: Are you not concerned that health care does not have the capacity to serve visitors from other regions?

– We assume, if possible, that the traveler really takes it into account. If you have met someone you know is infected, then you are not traveling. So you stay in your usual environment. We should try to have that trust in each other, says Eva Hellstrand.
