First, it rose 4,700 SEK, then it fell 5,200 SEK.
The price of a dishwasher sold by Mediamarkt has skyrocketed ahead of the Black Friday sale.
– It feels like they’re trying to fool people, says 29-year-old profiteer Christian.
At first glance, the offer seems particularly attractive. Big figures on the Mediamarkt site indicate that the 18-inch-wide Bosch dishwasher previously cost SEK 10,290. Before the Black Friday shopping party, the price was reduced to SEK 5,038, a discount of up to 51 percent.

Mediamarkt claims that the dishwasher has been made cheaper by SEK 5,000. But compared to the price before the sharp increase, the difference is just over 500 SEK.
Christian, 29, was drawn to the seemingly high price creation. But when he looked at the numbers a little closer, the picture changed.
– Sometimes I see stores that scam you with small sums. I can’t bear to worry about it. But these are large sums. I think it’s ugly, he says.

Historical PriceSpy data shows the hump in dishwasher price evolution on Mediamarkt.
Raised the price by 84 percent
Historical data from the comparison site Prisjakt shows that Mediamarkt increased its price significantly in late October. The dishwasher went from SEK 5,590 to SEK 10,290, an increase of 4,700 riksdaler or about 84 percent.
In mid-November, the price dropped to the selling level of just over 5,000.
– There must be limits to what you can do. Me and many other young people are good at following price developments, but older people in particular may not look that closely, says Christian.

The communications manager of the media market, Jenny Pedersén, “hopes that clients understand” the actions of the company.
The answer: “I hope the customer understands”
The price difference before and after the November hump is 552 SEK. This corresponds to a reduction of approximately 10 percent.
Jenny Pedersén is Head of Communications for Mediamarkt in Sweden. She defends prices.
“When the dishwasher was launched with us in September, it cost SEK 10,290. In October, we had a campaign in which this product was included and therefore the price was reduced on some occasions as a temporary price match against the competition to go up to the price that the product had before the campaign after the end of the campaign. campaign, “Pedersén wrote in an email to Aftonbladet.
“We have more campaigns during the year in addition to Black Friday and therefore you can reduce a price during a campaign period and then go up to the price that was relevant before the campaign.
But what do you tell the customer who thinks it is dishonest to double the price before the sale and then lower it?
“We have not doubled the price, we had a promotional offer in October and then we returned to the normal price. I hope the customer understands that sometimes we have promotions and that this means that in relation to a campaign we lower a price and then when the campaign ends we raise the price again. “
