The coach of the Norwegian team, Eirik Myhr Nossum, tested positive for covid-19.
It seems to have consequences for tomorrow’s world premiere.
“This means that the quarantine applies to all practitioners and leaders,” the Norwegian federation writes in a press release.
Unlike Sweden, Norway chose to send a great team to the World Cup premiere in Ruka. The national team chartered a plane to Finland and kept their fingers crossed that no one got infected upon arrival.
– Yes, that is the most critical situation, of course. But we can hope that both Sweden and Norway are ready to compete, national team manager Espen Bjervig told Sportbladet.
But hope does not seem to have come true.
“Follow all the guidelines”
Coach Eirik Myhr Nossum had not felt any symptoms when he was tested on Finnish soil on Thursday. But his test was positive and the Norwegian camp is now waiting for test B.
So far, all its skiers and in principle all the leaders have been quarantined, despite the fact that none of their tests have been positive.
– Our goal is to get the best possible overview of the situation and the possible consequences of the positive test. We followed all current guidelines after what happened and we interacted with the Finnish authorities, says Norwegian team doctor Øystein Andersen in a press release.
“Yes, it is a possibility”
The World Cup is scheduled to start tomorrow with a sprint, which will be followed by distance races on Saturday and Sunday. Norway has yet to make a final decision to cancel its participation.
“We are awaiting a response from Test B,” they write in the press release.
Pierre Mignerey, Fi’s competition director, is prepared for the possibility that it could be a competition weekend without Norwegians.
– Yes, it is a possibility, he says.
