The poem was first read at Skansen’s New Year’s celebration in 1895, since the 1920s the celebration has been broadcast on radio and since 1977 it has been shown on SVT.

Over the years, various renowned actors have taken it upon themselves to convey the poem and announce the new year. Since Jan Malmsjö resigned in 2013 after more than a decade, the audience has heard the “New Year’s bell” read by a new actor every year. More recently, it was Lena Endre who performed the poem.
– This is an important tradition for the audience, so each year we carefully discuss who will receive this honorary award. It’s fascinating how different Tennyson’s famous poem can be interpreted, it becomes a new poem every year, and our goal is to choose a person who can do it in their own way and add something to the previous interpretations, says Eva Beckman, director of the SVT program. in the press release.

SVT’s New Years broadcast is scheduled this year by Parisa Amiri and Anders Lundin. Several artists will participate in the broadcast, including Amanda Bergman, Lisa Nilsson, Kaliffa, Tomas Ledin, and Sarah Klang.
