More alarms from SVT and SR employees: “Middle-class bomb”

It was in late October 2020 that Expressen published its review of the utilities.

Several employees and former employees spoke about racism, discrimination, and lack of diversity at the large, tax-funded media company:

– You felt a bit like an illegitimate child, says music journalist Ametist Azordegan.

– The last thing that happened was my closet was smashed, says news anchor Arash Mokhtari.

Now there are also several journalists who have testified about their experiences to ETC.

He left after 42 years

Journalist Christian Catomeris worked at SVT for 42 years. But in October, he decided to leave the company, after the debate with the leader of the Agenda party.

One of the topics of the debate was crime. In one article, 13-year-old “Hassan” was used as an example of a boy living in a poor area, called especially vulnerable.

This journalistic movement led Catomeris to make the decision to leave the editorial office, writes ETC.

– It was a drop that broke a full glass and that has to do with a longer discussion on how the writing has addressed issues on immigration, immigrants and minorities. Here, my reaction to the elections was a clearly Muslim name as a “collective name” for young offenders, at the risk of stigmatizing a vulnerable group, he tells the newspaper.

Witness the change

Jenny Inal, who has worked for SVT and Swedish Radio for several years, also testifies that journalism on immigration issues has changed in recent years.

– The biggest problem is that SVT is a middle class bomb consisting of people who have the same shape. And that these people only have an insider perspective, he tells ETC.
