Pelé: “Someday we will play football again, in heaven”

Pelé, who along with Maradona is seen as the greatest in football history, writes on Twitter:

“I have lost a friend. There is much to say, but right now I hope God gives strength to his family.”

Italian Naples, whom Maradona led to two league titles, mourns their best player of all time:

“Everyone is waiting for our words. But what words can we use to describe this pain? This is a moment of tears. Then comes the moment of words,” the club wrote on its social networks.

Argentine President Alberto Fernández writes on Twitter:

“You took us to the top of the world. You made us incredibly happy. You were the greatest of all. Thank you for being there Diego. We will miss you forever.”

Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, multiple Ballon d’Or, also expresses his pain.

“Today I say hello to a friend, and the world says hello to a genius. He leaves too soon, but he leaves an endless legacy and a hole that will never be filled. Rest in peace, they will never forget it,” he writes. Ronaldo on social media.

Boca Juniors, Maradona’s last club in his career, has also spoken.

“Infinite thanks. Infinite Diego,” Boca Juniors wrote on Twitter.

Gary Lineker, former England international:

“By far the best player of his generation, and perhaps the best of all time,” Lineker wrote on Twitter.

Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee:

“Goodbye Diego, one of the best. You were a troubled soul, but you enlightened the whole world with your unique soccer qualities. Rest in peace,” he told the IOC website.
