The Crime Prevention Council (Brå) is initiating a study with the aim of mapping and investigating thefts, SVT reports. According to SVT, 7,741 thefts were reported last year, the highest number in ten years.

Among other things, Brå will investigate whether victims and perpetrators have a Swedish or foreign background in cases where there is an identified perpetrator.

At the same time, Brå cautions that such results do not necessarily reflect reality fairly, as the propensity to report and the risk of being suspected of a crime are unevenly distributed in society and affected by various factors.

The report will be based on the report and record of suspicions and questionnaire studies on exposure to crime. Brå will go through 800 preliminary investigations and conduct statistical analyzes of all youth robberies between 2015 and 2019.

According to Brå, it is already clear that a large proportion of both those who commit crimes and those who are exposed to crime come from socio-economically vulnerable areas.
