The incident for which the three men are now being detained took place in mid-March this year.
It started with a ship coming from Colombia to the port of Uddevalla. Swedish Customs and the Coast Guard paid a visit to the ship.
But they also chose to deliberately avoid checking the cargo space and instead installed a guard on the ship.
After midnight on March 20, three people showed up and sneaked aboard the ship and into one of the cargo holds.
Receive eight years in prison each
They dug up three bags before leaving the ship, to be immediately detained by customs personnel.
One of the men who has now been convicted of extremely serious drug trafficking carried a Go Pro camera and filmed everything himself.
The drug, which contained just over 61 kilos of cocaine, has been valued at SEK 90 million on the street.
All three are now sentenced to eight years in prison and life in prison.
– The district court has concluded that the evidence that the convicts realized what they were doing and were not threatened is compelling. It involves a considerable amount of cocaine and a qualified criminal plan, which justifies significant punishment and deportation, says the president of the court, Linus Martinson, in a press release.
Don’t believe the explanation of men
The court concludes that it is beyond reasonable doubt that they manipulated the drug and that it is impossible for them to use it themselves.
“Through the investigation described above, it remains beyond any reasonable doubt that the accused together and in agreement in the port of Uddevalla have illegally stored and transported 61.2 kilos of cocaine until it was seized by the customs authority. The quantity of drugs means that it is impossible that it was intended for personal use. “
The three men have denied the crime, or have said that they did not know that there was drugs in the bags or that they were threatened and therefore collected the drugs.
There is no explanation the district court believes.
