Henrik Lundqvist has had his first training session with the Washington Capitals.

The 39-year-old goalkeeper was on the ice along with, among others, Nicklas Bäckström and Carl Hagelin.

”The King has landed. I repeat, the King has landed ”, NBC reporter.

For the first time since 2005, Henrik Lundqvist meets his teammates at a new club.

Starting this week, Henrik Lundqvist participates in training at Washington Capitals.

Along with Nicklas Bäckström, Carl Hagelin, Ilya Samsonov, Tom Wilson, John Carlson and TJ Oshie, among others, he completed a training session at the training facility in Arlington.

In a video that Washington Capitals posted on social media, new goalkeeping couple Henrik Lundqvist and Ilya Samsonov make a punch.

“All eyes on the new kid,” the Washington Capitals wrote to the film from training on their official accounts.

Tight game schedule

In the North American media, Henrik Lundqvist is still mentioned as an endorsement and mentor of the supposed first Russian goalkeeper Ilya Samsonov, 23, since star Braden Holtby left.

In an interview with Göteborgs-Posten, Henrik Lundqvist has said that he can see himself as number one in the goalkeeping position.

– I will compete! He is a young and very promising goalkeeper that Capital has and I will work with him and maybe help him a bit, but at the same time we are both there to play. It’s about coming to camp and playing well, and then taking a chance when I get it. This season there will be many games in a few days, so you will not be able to unlock being first or second. It is increasingly going in that direction, that the team plays with two goalkeepers, says Henrik Lundqvist to the GP.

Take bounce

During the summer, Henrik Lundqvist trained with Frölunda and then at a training track in New Jersey.

“Henke”, Mrs. Therese and their daughters Charlise and Juli still have the apartment in Tribeca in lower Manhattan in New York, but they are also looking for accommodation in the American capital.

– We have focused more on the area. Then we will see how long we will be there. We don’t really know the plan for next season. If they run host cities, we will only be in Washington for a week, then you will be away for two weeks and then return for a week. You have to take it a bit to the limit with everything today, Henrik Lundqvist tells GP.

The star striker of the Russian capital, Alexander Ovetchkin, is currently in Moscow.

It is not yet clear when the next NHL season will begin and time is running out, the latest speculation is about January 1 or February 1.

With the New York Rangers, it was 15 seasons and 1,017 games for Henrik Lundqvist.
