This is no time to try to surround the council

On Thursday, the Västra Götaland region announced that the stricter councils would run until December 13.

– Every day hundreds of people are infected and some of them become seriously ill. Now it is going in the wrong direction and we should all feel responsible for it. At the same time, we can all make a difference by following the advice. It applies to me, it applies to you, and it applies to everyone else around us, then said infection control physician Thomas Wahlberg.

Now the Halland region wants to do the same too, after the extended restrictions formally end on Tuesday.

At a press conference Monday, infection control doctor Maria Ryberg Mo said:

– We have a continuous high spread of infection. The situation is as bad as when we entered with the strictest advice, but it has not worsened. We haven’t seen the dramatic increase that we had reason to fear when the tips were introduced.

Appeals: “Not in mode now”

Furthermore, he says that infection tracking shows that the number of infections through house parties, restaurant visits and the like is decreasing and that this is interpreted as Hallännings following the restrictions.

– The burden on hospitals has increased, but they have not wavered. For which we are grateful, says Maria Ryberg Mo more.

Martin Engström, director of health and medical care in Halland, appealed to residents at the same press conference:

– This is not the time to try to find a reason to complete the advice. No one else has the responsibility to stop the spread of the infection. Now it is important that we really help each other.

National councils expected

It also justified the decision to extend the strictest advice, which among other things means that you should not stay in closed environments such as stores, bathrooms and gyms and that everyone should avoid physical contact with other people with whom they live.

– It means a serious cut in the daily life of people and affects many companies hard. But for society as a whole, it is important to keep the spread of infection low.

At the same time, the county administrative boards in Västra Götaland and Halland decide, like the government, to ban public gatherings and public events with more than eight participants.

The Swedish Public Health Agency and the government plan to introduce national councils and restrictions from December 13, before the upcoming Christmas celebrations.
