At 1:45 pm today, LKAB has a press conference. But now they are counting DN debate what it is intended to reveal.

In posting the debate, the CEO of the mining company, Jan Moström, and Svante Axelsson, Fossil Free Sweden, write that the production of iron ore pellets ceases and they invest in a carbon dioxide-free process based on hydrogen to produce iron mushrooms.

Create thousands of jobs, annually

The 400 billion investment is described as the largest ever made in Sweden. The money will be distributed over 20 years between 10 and 20 billion per year and LKAB aims to double sales by 2045.

During the transition, it will also be possible to create between 2,000 and 3,000 jobs per year in Kiruna and Gällivare.

Requires large amounts of electricity

From an environmental point of view, investment in iron mushrooms will reduce carbon dioxide emissions among LKAB customers by 35 million tons per year. Recalculated, this means two-thirds of Sweden’s territorial emissions.

The mining company also lists some problems. It is written, among other things, that production without carbon dioxide will require extreme amounts of green electricity and access to biofuels.
