It became clear last weekend that Mohamed Salah was trapped in Egypt, where he would have played for his national team against Togo, in the qualifiers for the African Championship.
Before that, he was present at a wedding where his brother got married and just before the game against Togo, Salah tested positive for covid-19. So for a time it seemed that he would be forced to stay in Egypt due to the country’s quarantine rules, but Salah eventually flew to England on a private jet.
Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp says he has spoken to Salah several times after the star tested positive for COVID-19. He also ensures that he is not angry about Salah’s presence at his brother’s wedding, even though he was caught in a movie dancing and talking to other guests without keeping his distance.
Jürgen Klopp defends Mohamed Salah
– He’s in a good place, okay. No symptoms. That (the wedding) is nothing to talk about in public, Klopp said at a news conference on Friday according to the Daily Mail.
The German also mentions an incident when he himself was at a party.
– This summer I was in Germany and a friend of mine moved his party just for my sake. 50 people were coming and then I decided to leave at the last minute. In Germany it was allowed at that time. In other countries, there is more social pressure on you, and a brother’s wedding is a very special event, Klopp says.
– I must say that all my players are incredibly disciplined. They really know what the situation is like, but sometimes it’s not that simple. The rest is between “Mo” and me.
