William Poromaa broke everyone in Bruksvallarna

Sweden’s new super talent emerged like a machine when the 15-kilometer freestyle was decided during the opening weekend in Bruksvallarna.

William Poromaa, competing for Åsarna IK, beat well-qualified skiers such as Calle Halfvarsson, Jens Burman and Johan Häggström and thus won by a margin of 21 seconds.

– This is long awaited, says expert Anders Blomquist at SVT.

– I’m really impressed, says expert colleague Johanna Ojala.

Second Johan Häggström:

– It was no surprise. And we need someone like William.

“There is a lot of excitement now”

William Poromaa himself is taken when SportExpressen meets him in Bruksvallarna after the race.

– This is the most important day of my life, says Poromaa.

– Damn, how big! There is a lot of excitement right now. It feels amazing to be able to do it with dad on site. I think he’s terribly happy.

Dad’s name is Larry Poromaa and he has previously been a skier and head of the national team. My mother’s name is Anette Fanqvist and she won the World Cup bronze for Sweden.

William Poromaa also has a girlfriend named Frida Karlsson and is one of the best skiers in the world.

– Today was a double win for the Poromaa / Karlsson couple, says Anders Blomquist.

The pass to Norway

William Poromaa can now count on a spot on the Sweden team for the World Cup premiere in Ruka, Finland, next weekend.

And it boils with confidence.

– Norway will probably have to adapt a bit for me, says the 19-year-old with a smile.

As SportExpresen previously reported, William Poromaa has made a lot of impression during this preseason. And the friends of the national team, with Calle Halfvarsson at the head, have given him a new nickname.

– They call me “El Salvador,” Poromaa said earlier this week.

– He is the one who will save Swedish cross-country skiing, explains Calle Halfvarsson.
