BRUKSVALLARNA. Family happiness is total.
First Frida Karlsson won and then teammate William Poromaa took home the victory in the men’s race.
– Both were second in classic style, then we said we could be number one on Sunday. No one knew it would work, says the talent with satisfaction.
On Friday, William Poromaa finished second behind a stabbing of Max Novak in the classic race.
On Sunday he climbed to the top of the podium.
This is just hours after Frida Karlsson won the women’s race. William Poromaa was singled out as one of Sweden’s greatest hopes on the male side and he showed that he is already in class. It was then that he clearly won 15km freestyle in Bruksvallarna and put the elite of the national team in their place.
Names such as Jens Burman, Halfvarsson Street, Johan Häggström and Daniel Richardsson were established in the field.
– I was in control. Perfectly balanced and uniform opening on all laps since then. I’m glad to see a young man become so mature, says SVT expert Anders Blomquist.
– This is a perfect step for him from junior age to old age, he continues.
William Poromaa was very happy after the race.
– It means a lot. The day after the classic race, I spent the whole night and felt that now I can ski fast. It was a strange feeling to feel that you are so stable, he says and continues to describe the exchange in his career:
– When there was a break last year and they didn’t allow you to show anything and compete, it was as if everything came now. It became a sea of emotions, he says.
William Poromaa has something to brag about. Larry’s father was an elite skier in the 1980s and head of the Swedish national team twice in the 2000s, including during the Vancouver Olympics. His mother, Anette Fanqvist, won the World Cup bronze with the Swedish relay team in 1995.
Poromaa, who belongs to the B team training group, beat everyone from team A. The best of them was Johan Häggström, who was 21 seconds behind. The third was Axel Ekström, who took Calle Halfvarsson off the podium.
Next weekend awaits the world premiere in Ruka and William Poromaa hopes to be selected.
– How do I celebrate this? A ticket to Ruka would have been great … he says.
When he says that, the national team coach, Anders Byström, just passes on Sportbladet.
Can you deliver a ticket right here, Anders?
– I have no one in my pocket here… But he is a good “Wille”, says the director of the selection, Anders Byström.
