Erling Haaland, 20, was named Golden Boy earlier on Saturday, an award for the best young player in the world. Later in the evening Norwegian Borussia Dortmund faced Hertha Berlin in the league match. There, Haaland showed why he was named the best young player in the world.
Hertha Berlin held a 1-0 lead with them at halftime, after which the 20-year-old Norwegian woke up. First, he tied right at the start of the second half when he stayed in the right place in the penalty area. Two minutes later he ran free and scored his second goal and Dortmund’s of the night.
Haaland was not done there.
In the 62nd minute, the visitors forced their way down the right after a poor defense. The Norwegian ran free again, circled the Hertha goalkeeper and scored 3-1 for Dortmund.
Raphael Guerreiro then made it 4-1 for the visitors before Hertha dropped to 4-2. Haaland wasn’t happy about it, but he scored his fourth (!) Goal of the night with ten minutes to go.
Soon after, Haaland was replaced by Youssoufa Moukoko. What was special about that change? The 16-year-old became, with the jump, the youngest player in the Bundesliga at 16 years and one day.
Haaland has already scored ten goals in seven Bundesliga games. Dortmund is one point behind Bayern Munich, which leads the table.
“Today I woke up to a pleasant surprise, ended the day with four goals and a great victory,” Haaland wrote on Twitter.
