It was nine minutes from the end of the third period with a 2-1 lead for Örebro when the incident occurred.
Oscar Sundh was the puck leader in the midfield, when he played away from the puck and was then tackled hard by Örebro’s Emil Larsson, who came in from the side. The tackle appears to be on his head and Sundh was left on the ice after the hit.
The stretcher came out on the ice and when it was unfolded with Sundh, the IKO player was able to at least raise a hand and wave to his teammates.
“I should have been fired”
Thomas Fröberg is sporting director at Oskarshamn and is critical of the tackle. But even more so because of how the situation was handled from the side of Örebro, who was the home team for the match.
– It’s a blind side in my opinion and this is what we want to get rid of from Swedish hockey. His intention is to take Sundh when he goes there and give him a plug. It’s not that he can’t move but that he goes straight against him, Fröberg tells SVT Sport and continues:
– As they do not show it in the jumbotron … there you are wrong in my opinion. That someone is sitting and doing this and shows no such thing when we want to get rid of things like this. That it cannot be shown to the judges, whoever sits down and does not do their job there should be fired.
I saw no repeating images
The regulation says that the referees must not go out and watch boarding situations, but must see replays of the jumbo throne in the arena. Such a person was never shown, and therefore the judges had to start from what they had seen when the situation occurred, explains one of the main judges, Sören Persson, in C More.
– As we judge you on the ice, the tackle comes from a player who does not make any upward movement. We can’t decide on ice if it gets into our heads. We are four judges who agreed at that time. We don’t think the Örebro player is doing anything ugly. Unfortunately we don’t get a rerun of the jumbotron, which is unfortunate, which we must get to do the evaluation. There is nothing disrespectful and we do not believe there is deportation right there.
Leave a reassuring message
Sundh was taken to hospital after the beating and is said to have suffered a severe concussion, according to sports director Fröberg.
– Is in the hospital. There is no bleeding but there is a severe concussion. He has texted his girlfriend telling her that he is feeling fine and that he can be calm. It still feels good when it looks awfully bad on ice.
What do you think the result of the tackle will be?
– You will get five matches. Now the situation room should look at what they should have looked at directly. But now it will be done tomorrow at eight o’clock, concludes Fröberg.
Örebro won the match 2-1.
