The Minister of Migration, José Luis Escrivá, affirms that in December more temporary camps will be installed in Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Fuerteventura, where most of the migrants arrive, while the government works on a more permanent solution.
17,000 people have crossed the Atlantic
So far this year, around 17,000 people have arrived in the Canary Islands after crossing the Atlantic from North Africa, which is more than 10 times more than last year.
The reason is the corona pandemic that has caused countries like Morocco to close their borders, which has caused many to lose their tourist income and therefore desperately seek the sea towards the Canary Islands.
