At least eight people were killed in a series of explosions in the Afghan capital, Kabul.
Several rockets have reached the central parts of the city near the green zone where many embassies are located, including that of Sweden.
Local police confirm that several rockets have been fired at central areas of the city and that at least eight people lost their lives in the attacks.
The country’s Interior Minister, Tariq Arian, confirms the death toll and describes what happened as a terrorist act.
– Terrorists fired 23 rockets at the city of Kabul. Based on primary information, we can say that eight people became martyrs and that 31 people were injured, says the Interior Minister.
One of the buildings damaged by the rocket attack was the Iranian embassy, located just outside the green zone, the embassy claims on Twitter. However, none of the embassy employees should have been injured.
The rockets were fired shortly after two explosions occurred in the center of the city. In one of the explosions, in a police car, a policeman was killed and four were injured.
The attacks in Kabul are the latest in a series of acts of violence that have plagued Afghanistan over the past month. In September, the Taliban movement and government officials met to end the fighting in the country, but progress has been delayed.
During the day, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will meet with the Taliban movement, as well as with representatives of the Afghan government. There will be separate meetings with the two sides in Doha.
This week, the United States announced that it was withdrawing 2,000 soldiers from Afghanistan, which has been welcomed by the armed Islamist movement.
