The 17-year-old far-right man suspected in the fatal shooting of two African-American protesters in the state of Wisconsin has been released on bail.
A judge had set the amount of the bail at $ 2 million, corresponding to more than 17 million crowns. The 17-year-old attorney Lin Wood thanks actor Ricky Schoder and businessman Mike Lindell, one of President Donald Trump’s allies, on Twitter for their contributions.
The teenager has been locked up since the end of August. That’s when riots broke out in the city of Kenosha, after police shot the black father of young children Jacob Blake with seven shots in the back. The riots culminated two days later when two protesters were shot and killed.
The 17-year-old had left heavily armed that day from his home in a nearby town in neighboring Illinois to protect Kenosha from insurgents, according to his own statement. At night, a riot broke out and a video shows how a person who resembles the 17-year-old falls to the ground and shoots at protesters who approach him. Two people died and a third was seriously injured by the shots.
The adolescent is suspected of homicide, for causing danger due to negligence and illegal possession of a weapon, since he is under 18 years of age.
The next court hearing in the case is December 3.
