49,155 people in the stands, amid the corona pandemic.

That was the reality during a rugby match in Brisbane, Australia.

No other sports match in the world has had such a large audience since the pandemic broke out, according to The Guardian.

State of Origin is one of the highlights of Australian sport. It is an annual series in the best of three games where the states of New South Wales and Queensland sit.

In normal cases, it draws large audiences, and it wasn’t something the crown pandemic stopped either.

Admittedly, it wasn’t crowded (the arena usually seats 52,500), but it wasn’t far from there. As many as 49,155 people were in the stands when the decisive third match was played in Brisbane. It was the largest audience figure in the world since the pandemic broke out, writes The Guardian.

Raised the roof of the audience

New South Wales tied the series last week when it won in Sydney. That prompted Queensland Prime Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk to raise the ceiling from 75 percent to 100 percent before the game.

Queensland won the match in Brisbane 20-14.

380 cases – in one month

The crown situation in Australia is currently calmer than in most of the world.

According to statistics from Johns Hopkins University, the country has had 380 cases of covid-19 and two deaths in the last month. In total, the country has had 27,785 infections and 907 deaths according to the same statistics since the pandemic broke out.
