Most Swedes feel fine. But the positive evolution of the general state of health during the 2000s seems to have stalled. In addition, there are differences between different groups in society, says the Public Health Agency.

“In general, people with upper pre-secondary education report health problems more frequently than people with post-secondary education. These differences have also been found in previous public health analyzes,” says researcher Malin Kark in a statement from press.

In this year’s national health survey, 120,000 people between the ages of 16 and 84 were asked questions about their health and lifestyle. Of them, 42 percent responded.

The survey was conducted between February and May, and despite the ongoing pandemic, there are no major differences in responses compared to the previous survey, which was conducted in 2018. About 70 percent respond that they are in good general condition of health.

But many say they are mentally ill. This is especially evident among younger women. A slightly higher proportion than before, 16 percent, say they are obese.

National health surveys have been conducted since 2004 and generally show that the proportion of Swedes in good health has increased since then. However, there are great differences between people of different genders, with different levels of education and socioeconomic conditions.
