SMHI warns of strong storms in much of the country and during the night and the morning it was very windy.

Large amounts of snow are expected in northern Sweden, while strong winds blow south, says Lisa Frost, a meteorologist at SMHI.

– It’s difficult in various places right now. In parts of Götaland and Svealand, very strong gusts of wind are expected during the day. In the north, on the other hand, we have snow warnings and mainly for the Västerbotten coast, where we warn of large amounts of snow in combination with a fresh wind.

As seen now, Svealand can also see snow elements in the afternoon, according to Lisa Frost.

– But the vast majority stay in the north. We already have snowfall covering much of Norrland at the moment. Of course, the weather behaves as expected. But it is during the day on Thursday when the largest amounts are expected. The snow that fell last night is just the beginning of it all.

Scattered power outages

There have already been reports of power outages across the country. For example, the electricity company Vattenfall has interruptions in central and eastern Sweden, says Magnus Kryssare, press secretary.

– The most affected are Bergslagen, Roslagen and Uppland. Currently 3,378 customers are affected in 24 locations.

The storm is the cause of the scattered blackouts, according to Magnus Kryssare.

– It has been very windy and the interruptions are completely related to the weather. We have increased preparedness and hope to be able to control the situation during the day, says Magnus Kryssare.

Climate chaos in the country

There are reports of problems caused by the storm across the country. In the town of Oxelösund in Sörmland, a ship sank after a power outage destroyed the bilge pumps, writes Södermanlands Nyheter.

The Uddevalla Bridge in Bohuslän has been closed to heavy traffic in both directions due to bad weather, the reduced speed applies to all other traffic, according to the Swedish Transport Administration:

“If the winds pick up, it may be necessary to divert all traffic.”

In addition, the weather has caused problems on Highway 55 near Sjöberga in the municipality of Norrköping where a tree overturned on a truck trailer during the morning. At six o’clock, the traffic came to a complete stop, according to the rescue service in Östra Götaland.

Several train departures have been canceled due to high winds, according to the Swedish Transport Administration.
