After the summer, no reinforcements were needed in Gothenburg. Until now. The sharp increase in the expansion of society means that ambulance care must again gain strength and receive military aid.

Elisabeth Hammar, operations manager for Sahlgrenska’s ambulance service, tells Swedish radio that they now fear increasing pressure in the region.

– Our request is for three ambulances with paramedics, where we will have authorized personnel. It is a model that we had this spring and summer that went well and is a reinforcement of resources for the entire region, he tells Swedish Radio.

This spring, it wasn’t just the Västra Götaland region that was allowed to borrow military ambulances. The Norrbotten, Skåne and Stockholm region also had green ambulances on the streets.

During the corona pandemic, the Armed Forces have supported society in different ways. They have conducted corona tests, built field hospitals, and donated thousands of protective masks to healthcare. Corona patients have also been transported by military helicopter.

Stockholm is also experiencing a sharp increase in the number of races per day. This spring, the highest price was 160 transports per day.

– Now we have a strong increase, last week it was around 140 and it seems that it will continue to increase, although the rate of increase has decreased slightly. It has risen considerably during the latest rally, says Patrik Söderberg, chief physician in the Stockholm region, on Swedish radio.
